This email blast article is intended as a guideline to help identify fraudulent or “spam” email types that may look like legitimate emails sent by Crowl Marketing | Creative. Phishing scams and bad actors are becoming increasingly effective at mimicking how incoming emails appear. Clicking buttons / links contained in one of these deceptive emails can open you to identity theft.
Below is a typical email application window (Outlook used) to demonstrate two emails that seem identical, but are actually one “legit” and one “spam”. Knowing the difference can strengthen your cyber security awareness and help protect your vital personal and financial information. Your email provider will have default spam filters in place, but some are able get through presenting as legitimate. We’ll focus on the first two in the “Inbox” section.
In Outlook you can simply hover over the sender name to see the expanded info boxes below. In other mail services (Mac Mail for example) you can click adrop menu option. You can also look for the “all headers” information for an individual email sent. Let’s compare the two incoming emails sent:
Both emails could contain similar content, but the important thing is to identify which emails you receive are legitimate by verifying the sender name. Never click any links in a spam email. It’s an unfortunate reality that spam emails are looking more and more like real ones sent by trusted partners, but some simple tricks can keep your data secure!
